How Much 401K Advice Do You Need?
I always find it interesting when people attempt to give 401k advice. I can understand advice about how much to contribute or something along those lines, but as far as investing, most companies only give you a handful of options, so advice on what to invest in is very limited. Basically you can choose risky or safe. The best advice is to maximize your 401K match and then put it in something and just let it sit there. If you are more than twenty years from retirement, just let it ride. Odds are that if the market continues to go down for twenty years then everyone is probably not in good shape. Just contribute consistently and everything with be alright. Slow and steady wins the race. If you are within five years of retirement maybe its time to go completely safe just so your retirement date doesn’t get delayed. Maximum that match though, free money. I can’t overstate that, free money.
